Out of sheer ignorance, one of the most daunting things about the thought of having our first baby is the responsibility of naming him or her. So here is the deal…we are asking you the Brian Howe Blog reader to help us name our first born child. Our Baby is due on September 28, 2008. I know, I know, it seems a long way off but I am horribly impatient so we are starting this contest now.
Official Rules
1. You can submit up to 3 boy names and 3 girl names…a grand total of 6 ways to win.
2. You cannot submit the names Brian, William, Peter, Elizabeth, Victoria, and or Avery because we are already partial to those names….Change our minds!
3. If we choose your name to use as either a First or Middle name we will reward you handsomely…seriously you win something…I can’t tell you what, but it will be worth your effort! Hmm what would a good prized be for the naming of a child???
4. Throw a link on your blog to this contest, we would like to have peeps from all over the country world throw in name ideas.
I can’t wait to hear what you come up with…fire away!!

i would like to elaborate on my NOT Victoria comment.
1 – i’m just not a fan of the name, never have been
2 – SERIOUSLY?? you named your dog Posh. what’s with the Beckham obsession? people are gonna start to wonder, i mean really. Lib…I know you loved the spice girls and all, but this is taking it a little too far.

A piece of advice you did not ask for:
Do not tell ANY ONE the name you pick until the ink is dry on the birth certificate.
With our first two, we shared several potential names. Every knucklehead in the world told us how everybody would make fun of the name or that the name was linked to several well-known serial killers.
The truth is that there are no perfect names, every one WILL be corrupted on the school yard by some doofus. The idea of a contest is really cool– but if I were you I wouldn’t announce the winner until it’s too late for anybody to change your minds.

Lauren – PRINCESS SPARKLE WINS! Contest over
haha. Also, I love how you shamelessly throw “Lauren” in as your #1 choice. That rocks
March 18, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Joy
I went with more classic style names (sorry Brian)…Plus, some have nicknames – that should give me points, right?
1. Alexander (Alex)
2. Thomas (Tom)
3. Michael (Mike)
1. Emma (Em?)
2. Olivia
3. Isabella (Belle)
All of these names would work with a middle name of “Joy” even the guy ones (trust me).
I can’t top – Princess Sparkle.

I’m all over Jeffsdeepthoughts comment. What are you going to tell your son/daughter when they asked why they picked their name? “Well Bubba/Bunny, we had this contest on our blog…”
Molly and I waited until Madison was born and didn’t tell a soul until then. This is my vote.

I’ve always liked the name BRIAN for a boy but with the last name of Adams, we would have an “Office Space” moment on our hands. I’ve also always really liked the name SAM for a boy or a girl, but again, with the last name of Adams, our child would be in AA before he or she is out of Pampers. I also really like the names Charlie and Chris but those are the names of Jeff’s father and brother respectively. So…I bequeath my all-time favorite names to the both of you, names I fell in love with long before I knew my husband…
BOYS:
Brian
Sam
Charlie
Chris
Shawn/Sean

Girls:
Lorelai

(Sorry the girls list isn’t that long – I convinced myself a long time ago that I would never have any girls so I never put much thought into girls names)

I recommend these names:

How about Lindsey or Brianna or Brooke or Ariana for a girl? (these could be first or middle names) (you could change the spellings for these as well to make them more original to you) (Sorry if someone already mentioned any of these names for girls or boys, I haven’t looked at all the entries, just a couple.) Then for a boy how about Seth or Shawn (could be spelled Sean or other ways as well) or Michael or Brent? Tom just told me to tell you about a friend he had in school that had the name Jimly (a girl). I said no, then he told me (again, since I had forgotten) it actually means Jesus in me loves you. How cool is that? I just had to tell you!
Good luck & best wishes with picking a name and having your precious little baby girl.
God bless, Deb & family

Tom asked me why I gave you boys names when you’re having a girl and I said “I don’t know!”. (ha,ha)
Sorry about that, guess I was on a role. I have another girl name in case you’re interested-Natasha (you could call her Nattie/Natty for short). Natasha Marie Howe, cute!
Have to tell you this story that happened in our church in Indiana before we moved here. A friend of ours were having their first child. They had several ultrasounds saying the baby was a girl, we had a baby shower and our friend got lots of “girly” outfits. I got a call after the baby was born and when I heard the name I was kind of confused, it was a boys name. When I asked if I heard right they said yes, the ultrasounds were wrong. Myself and several others on the way to the hospital to visit got a boys outfit & brought it along. It was funny and our friends were happy to have a healthy baby, regardless of gender. They later had a girl, they must have been set on girls clothes. (ha,ha)
To be honest, this is the only story I’ve ever heard of (that I can think of) that the ultrasound was wrong on. When we were having our kids every ultrasound was right.
At least you have ideas on boys names just in case.
Good luck & best wishes with everything! Having a child is one of the best things in life.
What an awesome God to give us such precious gifts!
God bless,
Deb & family
